THE SPRING RIVER & WESTERN RAILROAD

A BRIEF HISTORY

Partners, William “Wild Bill” Engulf and Simon “Deadeye” Devaore to support their mining, timber and cattle operations in the Spring River Valley founded the Spring River & Western Railroad in 1898.

The Spring River & Western Railroad (SR&W) is wholly owned by the E&D, Inc (Engulf and Devaore) Mining and Timber conglomerate. The SR&W has trackage rights on the East and West Northern Pacific main lines and associated branch lines. The SR&W interchanges with the Great Northern, Union Pacific, SP&S, SRTC, E&DLC and now the BN at the main East and West yards at Spring River .

The SR&W is headquartered in the E&D, Inc building and main passenger depot in Spring River .

Today the grandchildren of the founders, “Wild Bill and Dead Eye” manage the daily railroad operation of the SR&W.
